Indian Samosa Pie
Ingredients
- 2 sheets of pre-made puff pastry
- 2 cups of boiled and mashed potatoes
- 1 cup of boiled and chopped mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, and green beans)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp chili powder (adjust to your spice preference)
- Salt, to taste
- Cooking oil
INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1: Preheat your oven to the temperature indicated on the puff pastry package instructions.
STEP 2: Heat a couple of tablespoons of oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
STEP 3: Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic to the pan. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
STEP 4: Add the garam masala, turmeric powder, chili powder, and a pinch of salt. Mix well.
STEP 5: Stir in the boiled and mashed potatoes and chopped mixed vegetables. Cook for 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Adjust the salt and spice levels according to your taste.
STEP 6: Roll out one sheet of puff pastry and place it in a greased pie dish or baking tray.
STEP 7: Spoon the potato and vegetable mixture onto the puff pastry sheet, spreading it out evenly.
STEP 8: Place the second puff pastry sheet on top of the filling and press the edges of both sheets together to seal the pie.
STEP 9: Brush the top pastry sheet with a little oil for a golden finish.
STEP 10: Using a sharp knife, make a few slits on the top pastry sheet to allow steam to escape while baking.
STEP 11: Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the pastry turns golden brown and crisp.
STEP 12: Once done, remove the Samosa Pie from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Enjoy your Indian Samosa Pie! It's a fusion take on the traditional samosa in a convenient pie form.
