Crispy Fried Chicken Recipe
Ingredients:
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Vegetable oil for frying
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Marinate the Chicken:
- Place the chicken pieces in a large bowl and pour the buttermilk over them. Ensure the chicken is fully submerged.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight. This helps tenderize the meat and adds flavor.
2. Prepare the Dredge:
- In a shallow dish, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well to create a seasoned flour mixture.
3. Heat the Oil:
- In a deep, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat about 2-3 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a kitchen thermometer to monitor the temperature.
4. Coat the Chicken:
- Remove the chicken from the buttermilk marinade and let the excess buttermilk drip off.
- Coat each piece of chicken thoroughly in the seasoned flour mixture, pressing the flour onto the chicken to ensure a good coating.
5. Fry the Chicken:
- Carefully place the coated chicken pieces into the hot oil, one or two at a time, depending on the size of your pot. Be cautious not to overcrowd the pot, which can lower the oil temperature and make the chicken less crispy.
- Fry the chicken for about 12-15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the chicken is golden brown and crispy on the outside.
- Use a slotted spoon or tongs to remove the fried chicken from the oil and place it on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
6. Serve:
- Allow the fried chicken to rest for a few minutes before serving.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, coleslaw, or biscuits for a delicious and crispy fried chicken meal.
Enjoy your homemade crispy fried chicken!
Note: Be extremely cautious when working with hot oil, and never leave it unattended. Children should not be near the hot oil, and appropriate safety measures should be taken when frying.
