Quick and Easy Fish and Chips Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 white fish fillets (such as cod or haddock)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sparkling water (or beer for a crispier batter)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 4 large potatoes, cut into thick strips (for the chips)
INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1: Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large, deep saucepan to 350-375°F (175-190°C).
STEP 2: While the oil is heating, prepare the batter. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Gradually whisk in the sparkling water (or beer) until you have a smooth batter.
STEP 3: Dip each fish fillet into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place the battered fish into the hot oil and fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the batter is golden brown and the fish is cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
STEP 4: In the same hot oil, add the potato strips (chips) and fry until they are golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
STEP 5: Serve your homemade fish and chips hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as tartar sauce or malt vinegar.
Enjoy your quick and delicious homemade Fish and Chips!
