Dahi Baray Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup urad dal (black gram)
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 cups yogurt (dahi)
- 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala
- 1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
- Tamarind chutney (optional)
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
INSTRUCTIONS
Soak Urad Dal:
- Wash and soak urad dal in water for 3-4 hours or overnight.
Grind the Dal:
- Drain the soaked dal and grind it into a smooth paste using a little water. The batter should be thick.
Add Spices:
- Add cumin seeds, red chili powder, and salt to the batter. Mix well.
Heat Oil:
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan or kadai.
Fry the Baray:
- Wet your hands and take small portions of the batter. Flatten them slightly and carefully slide them into the hot oil.
- Fry until they turn golden brown and crispy. Make sure to flip them to cook evenly.
Soak in Water:
- Remove the fried baray from the oil and immediately soak them in lukewarm water for about 20-30 minutes. This will make them soft.
Prepare Yogurt Mixture:
- Whisk the yogurt until it's smooth. Add a pinch of salt and mix well.
Assemble:
- Squeeze out excess water from the soaked baray and arrange them in a serving dish.
- Pour the yogurt mixture over the baray.
Garnish and Serve:
- Sprinkle chaat masala, roasted cumin powder, and drizzle tamarind chutney if desired.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
Serve Chilled:
- Refrigerate for at least an hour before serving to let the flavors meld.
Enjoy your homemade Dahi Baray – a delightful and refreshing snack!
