Apple Pie Recipe
Ingredients
- 6 cups of thinly sliced and peeled apples (about 6 medium-sized apples)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 package of refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Sugar for sprinkling (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
Prepare Apples: In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and all-purpose flour. Toss everything together until the apples are evenly coated with the sugar and spices.
Prepare Pie Crust: Unroll one of the pie crusts and gently place it into a 9-inch pie dish. Trim any excess dough hanging over the edges.
Fill Pie Crust: Spoon the apple mixture into the pie crust, distributing it evenly.
Dot with Butter: Scatter the small pieces of unsalted butter over the top of the apple filling.
Top with Second Crust: Unroll the second pie crust and place it over the apples. Seal the edges by crimping them with a fork or your fingers. Don't forget to cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
Egg Wash: Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush it over the top crust. This will give your pie a lovely golden finish. You can also sprinkle a little sugar over the top for extra sweetness and texture.
Bake: Place the pie on a baking sheet (to catch any drips) and bake in the preheated oven for about 45-55 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
Cool and Serve: Allow the pie to cool for at least 2 hours before slicing. Serve your delicious homemade apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
Enjoy your quick and easy homemade apple pie!
